Police Vehicle Forced into Ditch

On Saturday May 19, 2012 at 01:15 A.M. two Fairview RCMP members were driving east in a marked police vehicle on Highway 64a just west of Fairview.   A 2001 Saturn car traveling south on Range Road 35  failed to stop at the intersection of Hwy 64a colliding with the Police vehicle forcing it into the ditch.  The occupants of the Saturn car fled the scene on foot.   Assistance was called in from the RCMP Police Dog Service out of Grande Prairie as well as the RCMP Traffic Analyst from Peace River.

On Sunday May 20, 2012 Fairview RCMP arrested Jesse Eberle aged 24 of Fairview AB.  Eberle is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and fail to remain at the scene of an accident under the Criminal Code as well as other Traffic Safety Act offences.   Eberle is scheduled to make his first court appearance in Fairview on Wednesday May 23.

Both vehicles involved in the accident are believed to be a total loss. The officers involved received minor injuries and have since returned to duty.  Eberle was not injured in the collision.  The Fairview RCMP are still trying to identify Eberle’s passenger and are asking the public for assistance.

Three Charged in Aggravated Assault/Break & Enter to Commit Robbery/Robbery

Three Grande Prairie men, Jessie BOUCHARD (28 years of age), Aron GHAZOULY (19 years of age) and Kevin THIESSEN (30 years of age) are facing charges of Aggravated Assault, Break and Enter to Commit Robbery and Robbery, after allegedly breaking into a residence and assaulting a male resident.  THIESSEN faces one additional charge of Obstruction.

On May 13th just after 5:00 p.m., Grande Prairie RCMP were called to a residence at 82nd Avenue and 97th Street.  Reportedly, suspects had forcibly entered a residence, allegedly assaulted the 68 year old man and left after taking money and other items.  The assailants fled the scene in a silver vehicle.   The victim was located outside of the residence suffering from facial injuries and was transported to hospital.  He continues to recover from injuries sustained.

Later that night at approximately 10:00 p.m., police were called to a residence on Hillcrest Drive on a different matter, where the suspect vehicle from the earlier break and enter was located.  Upon entering the residence, RCMP identified the occupants as suspects from the incident earlier in the evening.  The three were subsequently arrested, charged and remanded in custody until their next court appearance on May 23, 2012.

Shots fired causing injury

On May 12, 2012 at 11:20 p.m., RCMP in Slave Lake responded to a complaint that shots had been fired and a male was injured at 8th Street N.W. between 2nd and 5th Avenue N.W. in the Town.  Upon police arrival, a 19 year old male was found to have injuries and was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.

The investigation is ongoing, however police have determined that several shots were fired on the street by a group of males which had reportedly had a confrontation.  The 19 year old male was injured as a result of the shots fired.

Fire forcing evacuation

On May 9th, 2012, the Fort Vermilion and High Level RCMP, along with the Fort Vermilion, La Crete, and High Level Fire Departments and the Sustainable Resource Development, responded to a very large brush fire that spread into the trees on Highway 58. The fire was caused by a power line that was knocked down from extreme wind speeds, which also aided in the fire spreading quickly through the trees and brush. Local residents were evacuated from their residences and the highway was put out completely, allowing local residents to return to their homes.

Peace Regional RCMP lay charges in death of Cadotte Lake resident

Stanley Ryan Williams, a twenty-four year old Cadotte Lake resident has been charged with manslaughter in relation to the death. The identity of the deceased is not being released, at the request of his family. Williams is scheduled to appear in Peace River provincial court on Monday, May 14 in relation to this matter.

On April 30th, 2012, at approximately 2:30 A.M., Peace Regional RCMP responded to a report of a male found deceased in the community of Cadotte Lake, Alberta.  An investigation into the incident was undertaken by members of the Peace Regional RCMP detachment, with the assistance of the RCMP Major Crimes Unit, Forensic Collision Reconstructionist, as well as the General Investigation and Forensic Identification Services sections.  An autopsy of the deceased was also conducted at the Edmonton Medical Examiner’s Office on May 1st, 2012.

Fort Vermilion Vandalism

On May 2nd, 2012, the Fort Vermilion RCMP received a complaint that the old location of the First Town Foods in Fort Vermilion, had a window smashed. The window was smashed sometime between May 1st, 2012, at 3:00 PM and May 2nd, 2012, at 3:00 PM. The total damaged to the window is one thousand dollars.
